Why We Fell in Love
with Spello
Italy isn't a discovery for our family — it's in our blood. My family is from Avellino, in the Campania region of southern Italy, and some of my most vivid memories growing up in Boston are in my Nonna Stella's kitchen. She taught me what real Italian cooking means: quality ingredients, nothing rushed, nothing fake. She was relentless about it. So when my wife and I first visited Spello — a 2,000-year-old hilltop town in Umbria — and felt the same unhurried reverence for food, wine, and the way a table brings people together, we knew we had found something rare. We bought property there not long after.
Spello isn't in Campania, and Nonna Stella never set foot there — but I feel her in every bottle of olive oil pressed from the groves below our home. Spello Provisions is my way of reconnecting to those roots, over 100 years later. It's her standard, applied to a place that captured our hearts. And every basket we assemble is our way of sharing that with you.
Here's something we've noticed every single time we go back: we lose weight. Not because we're dieting — because the food is real. The olive oil has health benefits unlike anything you find in a grocery store. The wine is made to standards that would shock most Americans. The ingredients are fresh and honest. That's what we wanted to bring home. That's what's in your basket.
"My Nonna Stella taught me that real Italian cooking starts with real ingredients. Spello Provisions is my way of honoring that — and reconnecting our family to its roots, over 100 years later."
